I finally got all the results on the blood tests I had taken in February. Everything but two test came back normal. My vitamin D level was extremely low, but that is (or I should say was) an easy fix. I have since had my Vitamin D retested and the results were much better.
The second test that came back irregular was the Chromosome Test. Typically women should have two X Chromosomes. Unfortunately, it appears I'm missing some of my X Chromosomes. So what does that mean for me?!? Honestly, I HAVE NO IDEA!! There is a chance I could have Mosaic Turner Syndrome (take it from me, don't Google it! It comes across a lot worse than it really is) even though I have very few symptoms/side effects associated with Turner Syndrome. The only thing the Genetic Doctor (yes, I had to see another doctor) suggested was that I have an echocardiogram on my heart as many women with Turner Syndrome are born with heart defects. As long as that comes back normal, there will be no additional testing or diagnosis. The echocardiogram was completed last week and we are still waiting for the results. The one positive that came from all of this, is that my doctors believe this could be the explanation as to why I have a low ovarian reserve.
We also had a chance to meet with Dr. Broadwell again and this time, we brought our potential donor along to come up with our plan of attack. Unfortunately (are you starting to see a pattern), BJ and I have decided to step back for a moment and really look through all our options. Originally we were planning on using a known donor, but there are many, many more hoops we would need to jump through to go that route verses using an anonymous donor.
So where do we go from here?!? What should we do now?!? Those were the questions we were asking, which brought us to the Kaldas Center. BJ and I have decided to get a second opinion. To see if we have any other options before we put all our eggs (pun intended) into one basket and go the donor route. And without a doubt, it was the best decision ever! Last week, BJ and I met with Dr. Kaldas. And to say he was amazing is an understatement. He was in disbelief that the doctors at Generations Fertility Clinic didn't complete such basic tests on me. They went with results form one test (that they didn't even perform) and completely ruled out all options for us. Dr. Kaldas would like us to complete a few additional tests and from there we can truly find out, what options are available. And an added bonus, the Kaldas Center is in Appleton so no more four hour drives to Middleton!!
In the next few days, I will be have a Anti-Mullerian Hormone lab completed to check my ovarian reserve and in addition, a Pelvic Ultrasound so they can count my follicles. In addition, next week I'll have another hysterosalpingram to check my fallopian tubes. I truly am very optimistic about all of this! Heck, back in January they were telling me I was going through early menopause and now I've had four months of regular periods - we celebrate the little things on this journey!
